Smartphone & Outdoor: What can phones and outdoor advertising when they are together

While traveling be aware of the capabilities of your mobile devices and their interaction with advertising carriers in the streets, airports or shopping centers.
IBeacons. You can take advantage of this technology if you have iPhone 4s, iPad of 3rd generation or newer one, iPad mini or iPod touch from the 5th generation. When you turn on Bluetooth you allow iOS geolocation services to track your location, notify programs about approaching or moving away from a specific location including iBeacons location.

And now they are located anywhere, for example, on advertising carriers or transit shelters. They make a connection with your phone and special programs can send you an advertisement or a relevant offer. So, if you like the content, you immediately make a purchase or subsidy on a social initiative. These are the stores of the future.
NFC. Technology, which we use constantly, for example, when we go to offices or in the subway with the help of "magnetic" cards. The technology works at a distance of no more than 10 centimeters and is specifically designed to interact with mobile devices. It's similar to Bluetooth but NFC connects instantly, almost within a second.

When special NFC sensors are mounted on ad carriers they don't connect your phone and deliver messages automatically. Only you can, if you want, bring your phone to the device and get the content that it distributes. It can be discounts, movie trailers, music, electronic toys, etc.
We can only boast that we know about examples of such outdoor advertising: unfortunately, it is not done in Ukraine yet.
However, we do the same as in Europe world advertising carriers of urban small and medium-sized formats, as well as modern transit shelters.

In 2008 RTM-Ukraine, for the first time in Odessa, installed European advertising carriers and continues to equip the streets of Ukrainian cities with modern outdoor furniture. In Ukraine transit shelters and unique illumination of the streets are the most popular. However, the installation of such carriers and light elements is not chaotic: it is always part of an integrated project of improvement of particular areas in the city, streets, highways, whole districts. After Odessa "RTM-Ukraine" has made such projects in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Vinnytsa, Kherson, Bila Tserkva, etc.
Who knows, maybe, in a few years we will install on our carriers small high-tech "devices", which will change the ways of consumption of outdoor content. Perhaps now we don't even know what will happen to the devices and style of advertising campaigns. After all, the technology is developing so fast that almost every week there is a kind of invention that opens hyper-capacities.

Backscattering: technology is used to broadcast radio waves on smartphones. For example, the city-light, which hosts a poster of your favorite band, suddenly broadcasts music on radio and transmits it to your smartphone. The technology uses low-frequency radio signals to distribute information to a pedestrian with a telephone within a radius up to 4 meters, or within a radius up to 18 meters to a car that has radio on it. The uniqueness of the technology is that it doesn't discharge a smartphone battery that happens when you listen to FM radio on a mobile device, but simply "reflects" the radio signals that are already in the air. As radio signals are almost everywhere, the developers went further and placed their "reverse" antenna on ordinary T-shirts.
Modern technologies and traditional street furniture are a powerful symbiosis for the development of the Smart Cities concept. So, "RTM-Ukraine" is already preparing a platform for the development of our cities in this direction.
